Born on an
island, living on a mountain gives a guy like me a lot of time and energy to
wonder what is my/our purpose? Why do I/we feel special? How do I/we do better
in this ever-changing world? How to be victorious?
A North
American lifestyle provides us a complex & optimistic economy with longer
winter periods to wonder and think about wide range of things. But in the end Victory
for everyone is defined in their own way. It is a constant and never-ending
process of getting better day by day. Hence, I am going to start defining my
purpose and thoughts on Victory
In the famous words of Matt Walker; “Sleep is our Superpower”.
SLEEP
Sleep is
incredibly important for both our brains and our bodies. In recent years, my
research has shown that sleep plays a crucial role in learning, memory and increase
in neural pathways creating new networks. Without sufficient sleep, our ability
to form and retain new memories is significantly impaired. Quality sleep has
been found to enhance memory and learning. During deep sleep, the brain
experiences specific patterns of brainwaves called sleep spindles, which help
transfer memories from short-term storage to long-term storage. By improving
the quality of deep sleep, we can potentially boost memory and learning. Sleep
deprivation not only affects the brain but also has detrimental effects on the
body. Lack of sleep has been linked to an increased risk of heart attacks, car
accidents, and even cancer. Short sleep duration can weaken the immune system,
leading to a decrease in the activity of natural killer cells, which are
important for fighting off diseases, including cancer. Disruption of sleep-wake
rhythms due to nighttime shift work has been classified as a probable cause of
cancer by the World Health Organization. Moreover, sleep loss can affect gene
activity, leading to changes in immune system functioning, increased tumour
promotion, chronic inflammation, and stress-related conditions like
cardiovascular disease. Lack of sleep impacts various aspects of our health and
well-being.
In summary,
sleep is not a luxury but a vital biological necessity. The widespread lack of
sleep in our society poses significant health challenges. It is crucial to
prioritize and reclaim our right to adequate sleep for the sake of our overall
well-being.
DREAMS
Dreaming is
an intriguing aspect of sleep that holds importance and can have an impact on
our lives. Research suggests that it plays several significant roles. Firstly,
dreams contribute to our mental and emotional well-being. During dreaming, the
brain processes and consolidates memories and experiences from the day. It
helps integrate new information with existing knowledge and emotions, leading
to a better understanding of ourselves and the world around us. Dreams also
provide an avenue for creative thinking, problem-solving, and generating new
ideas. Many notable inventions and artistic creations have been inspired by
dreams.
Dreams also
often reflect our fears, desires, and concerns. They can serve as a window into
our subconscious, offering insights into our thoughts, feelings, and unresolved
issues. By analysing and interpreting dreams, we can gain self-awareness,
explore our emotions, and potentially find resolutions to personal conflicts or
dilemmas. Dreams are also considered a valuable tool for uncovering hidden
meanings and addressing psychological issues. Some forms of therapy, such as
dream analysis or interpretation, utilize dreams to explore the subconscious
and facilitate personal growth and healing. Dreams can provide entertainment,
inspiration, and even a sense of adventure. They can be vivid and fantastical
experiences that transport us to different worlds, allowing us to explore
scenarios and possibilities beyond the constraints of reality. Dreams can evoke
powerful emotions, ignite our imagination, and leave a lasting impression. Dreaming
is an integral part of sleep that holds significance in our lives. It
contributes to our mental well-being, aids in memory consolidation, promotes
creativity, and offers insights into our subconscious. Exploring and
understanding our dreams can provide personal growth, unintentional goals,
emotional exploration, and potentially therapeutic benefits.
GOALS &
AMBITIONS
If we
become smart enough and always keep an eye out to look for problems and
puzzles, we will automatically rewire our brain to find solutions and
strategies to almost everything possible.
I’ve always felt that Goals and ambitions play a crucial role in shaping
our lives and driving our actions. They provide direction, purpose, and
motivation, serving as guiding beacons toward the life we envision for
ourselves. So, for the final part of this blog, I’m going to point down my
strategies and hacks to convert dreams/thoughts into actionable goals &
ambitions.
- Get Clarity & Focus: Write everything down, not for others but for yourself. Goals help us gain clarity about what we want to achieve and provide a sense of focus. They enable us to identify our priorities, set a clear path, and make decisions aligned with our aspirations. Without goals, we may feel lost or directionless, unsure of where to invest our time and energy.
- Derive Motivation and Drive: Having goals gives us something to strive for, igniting our motivation and driving us forward. Ambitions can fuel our determination, pushing us to overcome challenges, persevere in the face of setbacks, and maintain the necessary effort to reach your desired outcomes. They provide a sense of purpose and a reason to push beyond our comfort zones.
- Strive for Personal Growth & Development: Forget drama and negative criticism. Focus on Goals and use it to grow, learn, and expand your capabilities. Goals provide opportunities for self-improvement, as we acquire new skills, knowledge, and experiences along the journey of pursuing our ambitions. The pursuit of goals challenges us to overcome obstacles, develop resilience, and discover our strengths and weaknesses.
- Regular Measurement and Progress: Goals allow us to assess how far we have come, what milestones we have achieved, and what areas require further attention or improvement. By tracking our progress, we can stay motivated, celebrate achievements, and make adjustments to stay on track.
- Achieving Fulfillment and Satisfaction: our achievements validates our efforts, boosts our self-confidence, and enhances our overall well-being. Whether it's achieving a personal milestone, fulfilling a lifelong dream, or making a positive impact on others, the pursuit and attainment of goals can bring immense joy and a sense of purpose to our lives.
- Track directions and Evaluate: Goals and ambitions help us shape the life we desire. They allow us to envision and design the future we want, providing a road-map for our personal and professional growth. By setting goals, we take an active role in creating the life we want to lead, rather than simply drifting along without purpose or direction.
